Choosing your OB Doctor

Choosing and OB doctor was sort of dilemma for Neil and me. I had a number of choices from Ob doctors who have been close to me since I’m working for almost 5 years in the hospital. We weighed the pros and cons and decided that Dr. Nerissa De Jesus will be my official OB. Earlier that month, in a conversation with Dr. De Jesus, I remember asking her if we need to have workups for me to conceive since we really wanted to have a baby already. She even mentioned me a number of fertility doctors that I can consult since I have a range of diseases that might affect conception. When I texted her that Sunday after I learned I was pregnant, she immediately told me to have a check up on Monday.

Like me, she was surprised that I was able to conceive so fast. It was like a normal conversation, no fear, at ease and comfortable. Nothing much of too many forms but she took note of my existing medical conditions. She computed that Expected Date of Delivery (EDD) which is February 25, 2012. She scheduled me for a number of lab tests (CBC, Urinalysis, Hep B surface antigen), transvaginal ultrasound and asked me start taking prenatal vitamins (OBMax), folic acid and Duphaston.  I believe a good doctor-patient relationship is a must for this period of time.

Apart from family support, consulting a doctor who can answer your queries even through text messages especially if you are unsure of what to do is a must!

The Joy of Having a Miracle

I was confused if I’m simply having hormonal imbalance or I was really pregnant on the 3rd month of June, about 5 weeks after we got married. I asked Neil if I should go on and take the test but he fears that I will be disappointed with a negative result.

On June  25, a Saturday, when Neil had to go to an OR which took him 8 hours to finish, I took the pregnancy test at around 10 am in between doing household chores. Being my first attempt to use a pregnancy kit, I made sure that I followed every instruction to the letter. It had 2 lines, and I said to myself, wow! I’m pregnant!

I tried to call Neil but since he is in the OR, he could not take my calls. I had lunch with my family, trying not to spill the news yet because I want my husband to be the first to know. At around 4 pm, Neil had finished his OR and I requested him to buy a pregnancy kit, not knowing that I already tested myself. By the time he reached home, he saw the kit with two lines and said “Two lines mean positive, right?!” I replied, “That’s what the kit said.” We used the second kit that he bought and again tested positive.

I took a picture of the two pregnancy kits and told him that I will post in on facebook. He was hesitant because he said we are still not sure. Neil called an OB friend to confirm the accuracy of pregnancy kits but I went on and posted it anyway. In a matter of minutes, a lot of friends, relatives and acquaintances have expressed congratulations to us. I texted my mom to share the good news.
2 pregnancy tests both showing 2 lines :)

The feeling can’t be explained. Excitement, joy with some sort of fear but above all, we are thankful to God for blessing us with a little angel in my tummy.
